Chettinad mushroom masala

Chettinad mushroom masala



Mushroom             -250 g
shallots                  -1 cup finely chopped
ginger garlic paste -1/2 tbsp
roma tomato          -2 finely chopped
curry leaves           -few
oil                          -1 tbsp
salt                         -to taste
turmeric                 - 1/8 tsp

To Roast & Grind

oil                                        - 1 tsp
cinnamon                            -1"
cloves                                  -3
cardamom                           -2
Whole red chili                   -6-7
cumin seeds                        -1 tsp
fennel seeds                        -1 tsp
coriander powder                -1 tbsp
poppy seeds/khus khus       -1 tbsp
coconut diced                      -3 tbsp
Preparation time: 15 min
Cooking time     :  25 min


  • In a pan heat oil and add the ingredients one by one as listed in Roast & Grind and fry until well roasted and nice aroma comes out of it.

  • Let it cool off and grind it into a smooth paste along with 1/2 tbsp of ginger garlic paste ,turmeric and little water.

  • In a heavy bottomed pan add 2 tbsp of oil and fry shallots with chopped  curry leaves until  golden.

  • Add the ground masala to it and cook until oil oozes out.

  • Now put the finely chopped tomatoes with  adequate salt and cook until mushy.

  • Add adequate water and cook until it boils well .

  • Put mushrooms into it and simmer.Cook covered until mushrooms are well done.

  • Serve hot with idli/dosa/chapathi/Rice/pulav
