Fish drumstick curry

Fish drumstick curry is a coconut milk based dish with simple combination of fish,drumstick and spices.It can be made in a very short time and becomes a complete healthy meal when served over Rice.


Fish                     -3 fillets(Tilapia is used here)
drumstick            -2
shallots                -7 sliced
garlic                   -6 sliced
coriander powder-2 tsp
cumin powder     -1tsp
turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
chili powder        -11/2 tsp
Tomato                -4 finely chopped
Coconut milk      -1/2 cup thick
cilantro                -to garnish

To temper:

mustard seeds      -1/2 tsp
fenugreek seeds   -1/8 tsp
curry leaves         -1 sprig

Preparation time:7 min
Cooking time     :20 min


  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.Temper with fenugreek seeds and curry leaves.

  • Then add turmeric powder,sliced onions,sliced garlic and saute until transparent.

  • Put in coriander powder,cumin powder,chili powder and mix well.

  • Follow it with finely chopped tomatoes and cook until it turns mushy.

  • Add little water and cut drumsticks to it.

  • Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes .

  • Then add the cubed fish fillets and desired salt.

  • Add thick coconut milk and desired amount of water (to make thick /thin consistency of gravy as you wish)

  • Cook covered until fish is well done.Garnish with cilantro

  • Serve over Rice.
