Thatta payaru murungakkai masala

Thatta payaru murungakkai masala is a authentic recipe made in tamilnadu in every household for lunch.

Ingredients:

Thatta payaru             -1 cup
drum stick                  -2
shallots                       -3/4 cup finely chopped
tomato                        -1 finely chopped
salt                              -to taste
chili powder                 -3/4 tsp
mustard seeds              -1/4 tsp
fenugreek seeds           -1/4 tsp
cumin seeds                 -1/2 tsp
hing                             -pinch
turmeric                       -1/4 tsp
sesame oil                    -1 tbsp
tamarind pulp              - extracted from 2'' tamarind

To grind:

Shredded coconut                    - 3tbsp
roasted chana dal/pottukadalai  -1/2 tbsp
green chili                                 -1

Preparation time:10min
Cooking time    :30 min

Method:

  • Grind the ingredients given to grind into a smooth paste adding little water.
  • In a pressure cooker heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter. Temper with fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds, hing and turmeric.

  • Fry finely chopped shallots until golden.

  • Add the  chopped tomato and cook until mushy.

  • Now add the ground masala paste,Cook until the raw flavor goes off. salt and chili powder.
  •                          







  • Mix the tamarind extract with approximately 21/2 -3 cups of water. Pour it along with thatta payaru and 1' cut drumsticks.
                                  
                                  
  • Cover and cook for 1 whistle.Once the pressure goes off open it.

                                    


  • Serve hot over Rice.
