Plantain flower/vazhaipoo poriyal

Plantain flower/plantain blossoms/vazhai poo has a kind of saline flavor(thuvarpu) and is very good for health.This simple poriyal can be served as a side with Rice

Ingredients:

vazhaipoo/plantain blossoms-1 small
moong dhal                         -1 tbsp
shallots                                -4-5
mustard seeds                     -1/4 tsp
urad dhal                            -1/4 tsp
cumin seeds                        -1/4 tsp
green chili                           -2
red chili                              -1
hing                                   -pinch
cilantro                               -to garnish
shredded coconut              -1/2 tbsp
curry leaves                       - few
turmeric                            -pinch
salt                                   -to taste
oil                                     -2 tsp

Preparation time:40 min
Cooking Time   :20 min


Method:

  • Peel the plantain blossoms ,and chop it finely.

  • In a pot cook moong dal,chopped vazhaipoo/plantain blossoms with salt,turmeric and adequate water.


  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.Also temper with urad dhal,cumin seeds,green chili,red chili,curry leaves,hing and turmeric.

  • Add finely chopped shallots and fry until transparent.

  • Add the tempering into the cooked plantain blossoms.Mix and cook for another 2 minutes.

  • After 2 minutes add the shredded coconut and cook for another minute.




  • Serve as a side with Rice
