Keema kootu

Keema kootu


Keema kootu is an interesting combination of minced meat and lentils and tempered with spices. It is high protein dish with little fat too.It goes well with Rice/Chapathi.



Ingredients

Mutton keema                -200g
Chana dhal/ Bengal gram-1/4 cup heaped
shredded coconut           -11/2 tbsp
pepper powder               -1/4 tsp
Oil                                -2 tsp


To temper:


Cumin seeds      -1/2 tsp
Green chilies      -3
Whole red chilies-3
chopped ginger   -1 tsp
curry leaves       -few
chopped onion   -3 tbsp
chopped tomato -1 tbsp
Salt                   -to taste
Turmeric           -1/4 tsp

Preparation time:5 min
Cooking time     :20-25 min

Method:


  • In a pressure cooker cook keema and chana dhal in a cup of water and little salt for up to 3 whistles.

  • In a pan heat oil and temper with first 5 ingredients.

  • Then add the chopped onions and the tomatoes .After it gets little cooked put  required salt and turmeric.


  • Cook until mushy.

  • After the pressure goes off open the lid and add the tempering to it.


  • Also add the shredded coconut and cook until all blends well and nice aroma comes out.

  • Finally sprinkle some pepper powder and garnish with cilantro.

  • Serve over Rice/Chapathi
