Mango/Mangai sambar

Mango/Mangai sambar


Toor dhal                             -1/2 cup
Raw mango                          -1
shallots                                 -8
tomato                                  -1
sambar powder                     -1 tbsp
salt                                        -to taste
cilantro                                 -to garnish
oil                                         -1 tbsp

To temper:

mustard seeds                   -1/2 tsp
urad dhal/split black gram-1/2 tsp
cumin seeds                      -1/2 tsp
pepper corn                      -little
fenugreek seeds                -1/4 tsp
hing                                   -pinch
curry leaves                      -few
turmeric                            -little


  • Pressure cook toor dhal by adding water for 1-2 whistle until the dhal is well done.

  • In a kadai heat oil and temper with the ingredients given to temper.

  • Fry shallots until transparent.

  • Add in the chopped tomatoes.

  • when the tomato becomes mushy add the chopped raw mango cubes.
  • put the required salt & sambar powder.

  • Add adequate water and cook until  raw mango is soft.

  • Add the cooked dhal to it and let it boil

  • Garnish with cilantro

  • Serve over rice.
