plantain flower usili/vazhaipoo usili
Ingredients:
Plantain flower/vazhaipoo - 1 medium sized
onion - 1/2 finely chopped
cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
curry leaves - few
oil - 1tbsp
salt - to taste
turmeric -pinch
For grinding:
toor dal (or) channa dal -2/3 cup
hing -1/4 tsp
red chillies -6-8
Fennel seeds -1/2tsp
Fennel seeds -1/2tsp
salt - little
Method:
- Clean the plantain flower peel and cut into pieces.
- Pressure cook for a whistle adding water, turmeric and salt.
- Soak toordal (or) channa dal in water for at least 1 hour.
- Drain the water and grind chana dhal along with remaining ingredients for grinding into a coarse paste.
- Spread on a plate and microwave for 1minute and 30 seconds or you could steam in idli tawa too.
- Once cooled down again grind .
- In a pan heat oil and allow cumin seeds to splutter and add curry leaves.
- Add onions and fry until transparent.
- Add the cooked plantain flower/vazhaipoo and mix well.
- Add the ground dhal .
- Cover with the lid and cook for 5 minutes.
- Serve as a side dish with Rice .
