Avarakkai kootu/Broad beans kootu


Ingredients:

Avarakkai          -300 g
onion                  -1/2 finely chopped
tomato                -1/2 finely chopped
chanadhal          -1/4 cup
salt                     -to taste
chili powder       -1 tsp
sambar powder   -1/4  tsp
turmeric              -pinch
mustard seeds     -1/4 tsp
urad dhal             -1/4 tsp
cumin seeds        -1/4 tsp
curry leaves         -few
shredded coconut- 3 tbsp
oil                        - 2 tsp

Method:
  • In a pressure cooker cook chana dhal with 1 cup of water for a whistle.

  • Once pressure goes off add the chopped avaraikkai , salt, chili powder, turmeric and a cup of water.

  • Pressure cook for one more whistle.

  • In a pan heat oil ad temper with mustard seeds, urad dhal, cumin seeds and curry leaves.


  • Add onion and fry until transparent.

  • Follow it with tomatoes and sambar powder.

  • After 2 -3 minutes add the pressure cooked avaraikkai .

  • Cook for another 3-5 minutes until well blend and add the shredded coconut..

  • Serve as a side with Rice.
