Spicy mushroom masala


Mushroom                - 450g
onion                         - 1 large finely chopped
ginger garlic paste     - 1 1/2 tsp
tomato                        - 1 finely chopped
 coriander powder      - 1 tsp
cumin powder            - 1tsp
pepper powder           - 1 tsp
turmeric                     -  pinch
salt                             - to taste.
sesame oil                  -1-2 tbsp.

For tempering

fennel seeds               -1/2 tsp
curry leaves              - few
red chillies                -6-8 

For dry roasting 

urad dhal                -1/2 tbsp.
curry leaves            -2 sprigs
red chillies              - 1
peppercorns            -1/4 tsp


  • In a pan dry roast the ingredients given for grinding until nice aroma comes out. Allow it to cool and blend it into a fine powder.
  • In a heavy bottomed pan heat oil and temper with fennel seeds,broken red chillies and curry leaves.

Add onions and fry until golden.
Add  ginger garlic paste and fry until the raw flavor goes off.
  • Add tomatoes and cook for 3 minutes
  • Add the mushrooms and mix well.
  • Follow it with salt and spice powders,mix well and cover it with a lid.
  • When mushroom is half cooked open the lid and add the dry roasted ground powder to it mix and cover it again.
  • Cook for few more minutes until mushrooms are well done.
  • Serve with chapathi.
