kathirikkai kadayal/brinjal kadayal

Kathirikai kadayal is a interesting dish from Tamilnadu cuisine wnere brinjal/kathirkai is mashed thoroughly after being  cooked well with onion ,tomato and spices and is tempered with typical South Indian tempering ingredients.


kathirikkai      -  4
tomato             -2 medium size
onion               -1
green chilli      -3
cumin powder -1/4 tsp
salt                   -to taste

for tempering

oil                  -1tbsp
mustard seeds-1/2tsp
cumin seed     -1/4 tsp
curry leaves    -few
red chilli          -1

Preparation time   :5 min
Cooking Time      :15-20 min


  • Cut the vegetables in small size and put in the pressure cooker add right amount of salt , 1/2 cup water and cook for 3 whistle.

  • Once pressure goes off open the lid and mash with a beater or spatula.

  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds splutter.
  • Add  the cumin seeds,red chillies and curry leaves.
  • Pour the beaten curry to it.

  • Serve with Rice.
