fish garlic curry/meen poondu  vathal kuzhambu

Fish Garlic curry is a combo of fish,garlic and raw mango cooked in tamarind extract and authentic spice powder vatha kuzhambu podi.It goes well with Rice /Uthappam


Fish                                      -3 fillets
Garlic                                    -8-10 cloves
raw mango                            -1/2 cup cubed
mustard seeds                       -1/2 tsp
fenugreek seeds/vendhayam   -1/4 tsp
curry leaves                            -few
sesame oil                               -1 tbsp
shallots                                    -12-15
tamarind extract                       -1 small amla sized ball
salt                                          -to taste
vatha kuzhambu podi               -11/2 tbsp
turmeric                                  -1/4 tsp


  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.Temper with fenugreek seeds and curry leaves.

  • Then add the sliced shallots and fry until golden.
  • Add the raw mango and garlic cloves and fry for 2-3 minutes.

  • Pour the tamarind extract taken out of 1 amla size ball with adequate water.
  • Cook until it boils well.
  • Now cut the fish fillets into cubes and add into it.
  • Cover and cook for another 5-7 minutes or until fish is well done.
  • Serve over Rice.
