vazhakkai podimas/Plantain podimas



Ingredients:

plantain/vazhaikkai               -2
mustard seeds                      -1/2 tsp
urad dhal /split black lentils  -11/2 tsp
cumin seeds                         -1 tsp
red chili                               -7
curry leaves                         -few
hing                                     -pinch
turmeric                               -pinch
onion                                   -1/2 cup finely chopped
shredded coconut                 -3 tbsp
salt                                     -to taste
oil                                      -1 tbsp
cilantro                               -to garnish


Method:


  • In a idli steamer steam the plantain/vazhaikkai for 15 minutes.


  • Peel off the skin and grate the plantain /vazhaikkai.


  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.
  • Now temper urad dhal/split black lentils, cumin seeds, curry leaves, red chili, turmeric and hing.

  • Add the chopped onion and fry until transparent.

  • Put the grated vazhaikkai/plantain.

  • Mix well and add desired salt.
  • Fry for 5-7 minutes and add the shredded coconut.

  • Garnish with cilantro.

  • Serve as a side with Rice and sambhar/rasam/veg curries.
