Butter beans masala



Butter beans  -  1 cup
Onion             -   1/2 finely chopped
Mustard seeds -  1/4 tsp
Uraddal            -1/4 tsp
Curry leaves     -few
Salt                    - to taste
chilli powder     - 1/4 tsp
Oil                     - 2 tsp 
Turmeric           - pinch

For grinding:

Coconut                                         -2 tbsp
Roasted chana dhal/pottukadalai - 1 1/2 tsp
Green chillies                                -1-2


  • In a blender grind the ingredients given for grinding into a fine paste adding little water to it.
  • Pressure cook butter beans adding water to it for a whistle.
  • In a pan heat oil and allow mustard seeds to splutter.
  • Temper with urad dhal and curry leaves.

  • Add onion and fry until transparent 
  • Add a pinch of turmeric and chilli powder

  • Add the ground masala paste ,salt and turmeric.

  • Cook until the raw flavor of masala goes off.
  • Now add the pressure cooked butter beans along with the water in it.

  • Cook until the masala oozes oil.

  • Serve as a side with rice.

Serves 2-4
