Murungai poricha kuzhambu (drumstick poricha kuzhambu)

Ingredients

Murungai (Drumstick)- 2 to 3
Mungdal orTor dal      -3 or 4 tbsp
Tamarind juice            -1 cup
salt                               -to taste

Roast and grind

Coconut              -1/2 cup
cumin seeds         -4
red chilli              -1 1/2 tbsp
uraddal                -1 tsp
Hing                    - 1/4 tsp

for tempering

Mustard seeds   - 1/4 tsp
Curry leaves      -few
cumin seeds       -1/4 tsp
onion                 -1/4 cup finely chopped 
oil                     - 2 tsp

Method:

  • Roast and grind the ingredients given above for roast and grind into a fine paste.
                                      
  • In  a pressure cooker and add dal with right amount of water to cook the dal.
  • When dal is half cooked you can add drumstick into it.Then cover the lid and pressure cook for two whistles.
Heat  the oil in a pan and allow mustard seeds to splutter.Add the cumin seeds, curry leaves .Fry onions until translucent.Then  add the tamarind juice  and 1/2 cup water.


Once it starts boiling add the cooked dal and drumstick.Also add the ground paste with adequate salt .Cook  for another 5 to 10 min.( if you need you can add water ) .




Then garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve with rice.
