Channa drumsticks tamarind curry/kondaikadalai pulikuzhambu

Ingredients:

Channa/kondaikadalai          - 1/2 cup
Drum stick                            - 1
small onion                           -  10
tamarind paste                       -  1 tbsp
Dry coconut powder              - 1 tbsp(you can substitute by little coconut milk)
salt                                         - to taste
chilli powder                          -  21/2 tsp
cumin powder                       - 2 tsp
turmeric                                -  1/8 tsp
tomato                                   - 1 small sliced
curry leaves                           - few
sesame oil                             -  2 -3 tbsp
mustard seeds                       -  1/2 tsp
fenugreek seeds                    - 1/4 tsp
hing                                       - a pinch

Method:

  • Soak channa overnight and pressure cook upto 3 whistles
  • After the pressure goes off add the cut drumsticks to it and pressure cook for one more whistle .
  • After the pressure goes off drain the water and keep it aside and keep the channa drumstick seperately
  •  In a mixer blend the small onions into a coarse /fine paste as you desire 



  • In a pan heat oil and temper it with mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds
  • Follow it with hing,red chillies and curry leaves



  • Now add the ground paste



  •  After the raw smell of onions go off and it turns transparent add the turmeric,chilli powder,cumin powder and sliced tomato



  • After the masala blends well add the cooked channa and drumsticks to it


  • Pour the  drained water measuring  2 1/2 - 3 cups (u can add  water if no sufficient drained water )mixed with the tamarind paste


  • After it comes to boil add the dry coconut powder(or coconut milk whichever is handy)


  • Cook another 5 minutes


  • Serve it with Rice and papad
