Vazhakai urundai / Vazhakai vadai /plantain vada


Ingredients

Vazhakai/plantain                     -2
salt                                            - to taste
oil                                             - to fry

 Table 1

To roast & grind :


Red chilli                                 -5
Channa dal                               -1 tsp
Urad dal                                   - 1 tsp
roasted chana dhal(porikadalai) - 1tsp
Cinnamon stick                        - 1 inch
Garlic clove                              -3
Fennel seeds                             -1/2 tsp



Table 2

Coconut powder   -1/4 cup
onion                     - 1/2       
garlic cloves          -5


Method:

  • Dry roast all the ingredients in table 1 and ground into a coarse powder and keep it aside.This is powder 1.





  • In a little oil fry the contents of table 2 and grind it  into a coarse powder.This is powder 2.
  • Steam  the plantain in a idli tawa.Peel the skin off  and shred it using a shredder.
  • Mix the shredded plantain, powder 1 and   powder 2 and desired salt. Blend  it in mixer for just  5 seconds(do not over grind)


  • Make into equal sized patties

  • Deep fry in oil until golden brown

Serve hot with chutney
