Country chicken curry(nattu kozhi kuzhambu)


Country chicken          -  1 kg
small onion                  -  1/2 kg
tomato                          - 1 large
curry leaves                  - few
ginger garlic paste        -  11/2 tbsp
coriander powder         -  1 tbsp
chilli powder                - 2 tsp
turmeric                       - 1/4 tsp
salt                               - to taste
Sesame oil                   - 2tbsp

For grinding:

Shredded coconut        - 1/2 cup
cashews                       - 10 whole
pepper corns                - 1 tsp
cumin seeds                 - 1 tsp
fennel seeds                 - 1/2 tsp


  • Grind the ingredients given for grinding into a smooth paste and keep it aside

  • In a pressure cooker heat sesame oil add the choppes small onions and curry leaves

  • Fry until it turns golden and add the ginger garlic paste

  • After the raw smell goes off add the finely chopped tomatoes
  • Add chilli powder,turmeric,coriander powder and desired salt 

  •  stir for another 2 minutes until the spice gets mixed well
  • Now add the cleaned chicken pieces and mix well

  • Now add 21/2 cups of water and pressure cook upto 4 whistles or until the chicken is well done

  • After the pressure goes off add the ground masala and allow it to boil for 15 minutes
