Chili Fish  curry



Fish                 -1/4 kg
Tamarind juice-1 cup
salt                  - to taste
Turmeric         - pinch

for grinding

Chilli powder       -1 tsp
fennel seeds          -1 tsp
coriander powder  -1 tsp
small onion            -6

For tempering

coconut oil                        -2tbsp
mustard seeds                    - 1tsp
fenugreek seeds                 -1/4 tsp
chopped ginger and garlic -some
chopped onion                   -2 tbsp


  • Grind all the ingredients given above for grinding into a fine paste
  • Cut the fish into medium size and sprinkle salt and pinch of turmeric powder on all sides and then keep it aside.
  • Heat the coconut oil add the ingredients one after the other as in the order given above for tempering
  • once onion gets cooked add ground masala and cook until the raw masala flavour goes off
  • Now add 1/2 cup of water cook  for another 5 min
  • then add the tamarind juice and cook until the gravy becomes thick
  •  At this stage put the fish into the gravy and cover it with a lid and put on medium flame.

  • once fish gets cooked  switch off the stove and garnish with coriander leaves.

  • serve with hot rice or idli ,dosa.
